What We Believe
Our Core Theological Beliefs:
-
That there is only one true God, and that he exists in three persons, the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit.
-
Jesus Christ, the second person of the Trinity, is co-equal, and co-eternal with the Father, although he willingly submits to the Father in all things. See John 1:1-3; Philippians 2: 5-11; Hebrews 1:3. We believe that he was born of a virgin by the power of the Holy Spirit, and that he is fully God and fully man, and that he died on the cross to redeem us from our sins and reconcile us to God. He rose from the dead and is now seated at the right hand of the Father. See Luke 1 and 2; John 1:1-18; John 3:16; I Corinthians 15:3-4; Ephesians 1:20.
-
The Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment; indwells and empowers every believer, placing them in the body of Christ (baptism of the Spirit) and he seals them in Christ . See John 16:5-11; Ephesians 1:13, 14; I Corinthians 12:12-13.
-
That the Bible is the fully inspired and authoritative Word of God. That it is true, and our only source of truth for life and practice. It is God’s all-sufficient, complete and final revelation to man. See 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20; Hebrews 4:12; Revelation 22:18-19.
In short, we believe in the Trinity, in the authority and power of the Word of God, in a real place called heaven and a real place called hell. We believe in God’s love and in God’s justice. The two are not in conflict. We believe that every local church is a local expression of the much larger and richer and fuller body of Christ. We believe that we’re sinners in need of a Savior, and that Jesus Christ is that Savior.
We believe that the main things are the plain things of Scripture and that the plain things are the main things.
In Essentials—Unity
In Non-Essentials—Freedom
Our goal is to preach Christ, and to stick to the essentials.
